FOGOCOM Commends Tinubu for Educational Reforms

The Forum of Governing Councils of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (FOGOCOM) praised President Bola Tinubu for his unprecedented support for the country's tertiary education sector during a press conference in Abuja on Saturday. FOGOCOM's chairman, Dr.

Akin Thomas Babajid, highlighted the federal government's reforms aimed at improving higher education, including the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF), which has provided interest-free loans to 1.38 million students, totaling N242 billion disbursed for tuition and upkeep. The forum noted significant improvements in institutional governance, infrastructure development, and staff welfare since Tinubu's administration began.

They also mentioned the deployment of N110 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for high-impact projects, including the rehabilitation of medical schools across 18 states. FOGOCOM urged the federal government to extend the tenure of governing councils from three to four years to ensure stability and effective implementation of reforms.

They expressed their commitment to supporting the administration's educational policies as the nation approaches the 2027 elections.
