Tinubu Endorses Hamzat for Lagos Gubernatorial Race

President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Lagos State gubernatorial election scheduled for 2027.

This endorsement was made public following a meeting held at the State House in Abuja with members of the Lagos Governor's Advisory Council (GAC), which is led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi. The meeting took place on Tuesday, and attendees included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other prominent APC members.

Hamzat, who is currently the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, expressed confidence in his experience and readiness for the gubernatorial race. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasized his commitment to serving the people.

The APC's gubernatorial primary is set for May 21, 2026, with nomination forms closing on May 4, 2026. Despite concerns raised by some party members regarding the legitimacy of the consensus arrangement, Olusi reaffirmed the party's commitment to a fair primary process.
