Transport Minister Saidu Alkali Resigns Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Tuesday evening, Saidu Alkali resigned from his position as Nigeria's Transport Minister in President Bola Tinubu's cabinet, becoming the third minister to do so ahead of the March 31 deadline for political appointees wishing to contest elections. Alkali's resignation was confirmed by Umar Jibril, Special Assistant to the Media, who stated that the minister felt honored to serve and was proud of the progress made in Nigeria's transport sector.

President Tinubu accepted the resignation and commended Alkali's contributions to national development. Alkali, a former senator representing Gombe Central, is expected to contest for the Gombe State governorship seat in the 2027 elections, succeeding the current governor, Inuwa Yahaya, whose term ends in May 2027.

His departure brings the total number of ministers who have resigned to three, following the resignations of Yusuf Tuggar and Yusuf Sununu, who are contesting for governorship and senatorial seats, respectively.
