ADC Convention in Abuja Raises Concerns for INEC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its national convention in Abuja on a Tuesday, where delegates overwhelmingly voted to amend the party's constitution and dissolve the Ralph Nwosu-led national working committee, appointing David Mark to assume full responsibility for the party's affairs. This event raised concerns for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which had previously suspended recognition of a faction within the party due to ongoing leadership crises.

Despite INEC's warnings and attempts to halt the convention, including efforts to shut down the venue, the ADC proceeded with the event. Notably, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized INEC for allegedly undermining democracy in Nigeria.

The ADC expelled faction leaders, including Nafiu Bala and Leke Abejide, for anti-party activities. The convention was marked by tensions, including attempts to prevent attendance and disruptions, but ultimately signaled a renewed commitment from the ADC as a viable opposition force in Nigerian politics.
