Rhodes-Vivour Challenges Hamzat's Candidacy Over US Oath

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, accused Obafemi Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent deputy governor, of swearing an oath of allegiance to the United States, which he argued should disqualify Hamzat from the governorship race. Rhodes-Vivour made these claims during a Tuesday appearance on Sunrise Daily, a program on Channels.

He referenced testimony from Olubusayo Fasidi, an immigration lawyer, who stated that Hamzat had applied for US naturalization and taken an oath of allegiance. Rhodes-Vivour asserted that individuals seeking public office in Nigeria must not pledge loyalty to another country, citing Boris Johnson's renunciation of his American citizenship as a precedent.

He emphasized that Nigerians deserve leaders with undivided loyalty. Additionally, Rhodes-Vivour reiterated previous criticisms of the 2023 Lagos governorship election, alleging it was marred by violence and voter intimidation, although he did not provide new evidence during the appearance.
