2027: ‘Why PDP Zoned Presidential Ticket To The South’

The decision to zone the presidential ticket of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the South in 2027 was reportedly part of a resolution reached during the party's 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the national headquarters in Abuja. Party insiders revealed that the move was aimed at preventing tension and division within the party, as well as discouraging current National Working Committee (NWC) members from seeking the position.

The decision was also said to reflect the mood of the country. The establishment of a zoning committee, chaired by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, paved the way for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to emerge as a candidate, despite opposition from some party members.

The NEC meeting ultimately confirmed the zoning of the presidency to the South, setting the stage for the 2027 contest.
