Wike Denies Endorsing Candidate for Rivers Governorship

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, addressed concerns regarding the 2027 governorship election during a joint stakeholders meeting in Abuja. He denied endorsing any candidate, stating that the decision rests solely with the Rivers Elder Council, led by Ferdinand Alabraba.

Wike emphasized that no single individual can impose a candidate on the state and warned aspirants against relying on such impositions, urging Rivers voters to resist any attempts to force candidates upon them. He acknowledged the significant role of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhul, in the ongoing political situation.

Wike also called for unity among members of emerging coalitions across party lines, cautioning against divisive ambitions and external forces that may attempt to weaken the coalition. He reaffirmed his political support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections and dismissed reports of any secret endorsements.
