Wike Confirms PDP Will Contest 2027 Elections

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, stated that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) will be on the ballot for the 2027 general elections, dismissing doubts about the party's future. Speaking during a media session on Friday, Wike clarified that although the PDP did not produce a president in 2015, it remains active and continues to operate at various government levels.

He stressed that the party's main concern is to maintain strength and activity rather than solely focusing on winning the presidential seat. Wike advised party members to concentrate on building strength at the state and local levels, as political success does not solely depend on the presidential seat.

He warned against rushing to present a presidential candidate without a proper plan, noting that contesting elections requires mental readiness and strong preparation. Additionally, he highlighted that the PDP is dealing with internal issues, with different groups within the party holding separate meetings and taking legal steps due to concerns about leadership crises as the 2027 elections approach.
