Nigerian Youths Urge Jonathan to Contest in 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, Nigerian youths and civil society organizations gathered in Abuja to urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the presidency in the 2027 elections. The protest featured a large crowd chanting slogans and displaying placards with messages such as "GEJ Nigeria, die to save GEJ" and warnings not to run.

The demonstrators expressed their desire for Jonathan to return to power, emphasizing the need for leadership to rescue the country. Tom Ohikere, a former Kogi State Commissioner for Information, noted that the group waited three hours to meet Jonathan, who did not appear.

The protest occurred during a nationwide consultation period of six months, reflecting a rising momentum for Jonathan's potential candidacy. The call for his return comes amid a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where members are also urging him to join the race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has been called upon to reverse the delisting of the ADC, further intensifying the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
