Nigeria Welcomes AUSC Inspectors for 2031 Games Bid

Nigeria is making significant strides in its bid to host the 2031 African Games, having welcomed a team of inspectors from the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) on April 1. This visit marks a key phase in the competitive race to host Africa's largest multi-sport event.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed the visit via its official account, indicating that the inspection will evaluate Nigeria against continental hosting standards. The assessment will cover various aspects, including venues, logistics, accommodation, transport networks, and the broader sports ecosystem.

Nigeria's campaign is designed to focus on long-term gains beyond the games themselves, with plans emphasizing infrastructure upgrades, youth development, and economic growth driven by sports. This move follows Nigeria's unsuccessful bid to host the centenary edition of the African Games in Ahmedabad, India, which has dashed hopes of staging the event in Abuja.
