Uganda Bids to Host 2031 African Games with New Facilities

Uganda has officially submitted its bid to host the 2031 African Games, signaling the country's ambition to stage Africa's largest multi-sport competition. The proposal was presented to relevant continental authorities, who are set to inspect major sports facilities earmarked for the tournament, including the newly built Hoima City Stadium, expected to serve as a key venue.

The bid's success is contingent upon the assessment by the African Union Sport Council, which has already expressed satisfaction following its evaluation of Uganda's infrastructure and preparedness. The council praised the quality of facilities and acknowledged Uganda's long-term development strategy aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and improving organizational capacity ahead of major continental events.

The recent African Games held in Ghana in 2023 set a strong benchmark for future host nations. Uganda's bid reflects a broader push to expand sports development across the country, positioning Hoima as a major regional sports hub capable of hosting international competitions by 2031.
