Nigeria to Host CAF Congress and 2026 Awards Events

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria's bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the 2026 CAF Awards. This decision was announced during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 12.

The CAF Congress is scheduled for October and will gather influential figures in African football, including the presidents of CAF's 54 member associations and senior administrators from six zonal unions across the continent. Key attendees will include CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, special adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

Hosting these events is seen as a significant boost to Nigeria's standing in African football governance, providing a platform for major policy development and strategic discussions.
