23 Million Children Vaccinated Against Polio in Nigeria

In the first half of 2026, more than 23 million children were vaccinated against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases in 15 Nigerian states, as reported by Atef Fawaz, the Executive Director of eHealth Africa. The states involved in the vaccination campaign include Niger, Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Zamfara.

The campaign was supported by eHealth Africa across over 205,000 settlements and incorporated advanced digital technology, including Geospatial Tracking Systems (GTS) and renewable energy solutions. Fawaz made these statements during the 2026 Mid-Year Report presentation, titled “Expanding Reach, Readiness and Resilience: Data-Driven Health Systems Across Africa,” which detailed eHealth Africa’s interventions from January to June 2026.

The report emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, communities, and technology to enhance healthcare delivery systems. Additionally, eHealth Africa expanded its PlanFeld digital tool across 253 local government areas in 10 northern states, aiding 33,837 vaccination teams with digitized microplans and maps.
