Nigeria Vaccinates 23 Million Children, Saves ₦166m

In the first half of 2026, Nigeria's vaccination drive successfully reached over 23 million children with vaccines against polio and other preventable diseases. This initiative, supported by eHealth Africa and its immunisation partners, covered more than 205,000 settlements.

According to eHealth Africa's 2026 Mid-Year Report, the PlanFeld digital mapping tool was expanded to 253 local government areas across 10 northern states, aiding 33,837 vaccination teams with digital microplans and maps. The technology was also employed in four local government areas in Lagos State during the Measles-Rubella campaign, producing 1,980 digital maps for vaccination teams.

In Sokoto State, the Vaccine Direct Delivery programme increased the number of health facilities receiving vaccines from 351 to 407, delivering approximately 3.41 million vaccine antigens. Additionally, renewable energy investments at primary healthcare centres resulted in an estimated ₦166 million in avoided fuel costs during the first six months of the year, with 238 centres solarised under the Renewable Energy for Primary Health Care programme supported by UNICEF.
