Nigerian Government to Review National Communication Policy After 26 Years

The Nigerian government is initiating a review of the national communication policy after 26 years to address the rapid technological changes and evolving market dynamics that have outpaced the existing framework. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the commencement of the review process through a consultation paper to gather stakeholder input for proposed policy changes.

The aim of the review is to reposition Nigeria's telecommunications policy to reflect the current digital service landscape, internet governance, satellite communications, broadband expansion, universal access, and the sector's role as a key driver of economic growth. The review will encompass updating several policy chapters, including internet safety, satellite communications, financial funding mechanisms, and infrastructure protection.

The NCC acknowledges the need to overhaul the outdated framework to meet the demands of the digital era and ensure alignment with global technological trends.
