27 Killed in Truck-Minibus Collision in Zimbabwe

On Friday night, August 29, a tragic accident occurred on a major highway in Zimbabwe, resulting in the deaths of 27 individuals. The victims were members of a popular indigenous African Christian denomination, known for wearing white robes, who were traveling to a conference.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed that the collision happened when the truck's driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to a head-on crash with the minibus taxi. Initial reports indicated that 23 people died at the scene, with additional victims succumbing to their injuries at a nearby hospital.

The minibus was reported to have caught fire upon impact, leaving it a burnt-out shell. This incident is part of a concerning trend in Zimbabwe, where human error is attributed to 94% of road accidents, and the country has one of the worst road safety records in Africa.
