Zimbabwe Boat Capsize Claims 15 Lives, 77 Rescued

A tragic boat mishap occurred in Zimbabwe, leading to the deaths of 15 individuals. The national disaster management agency reported that 77 people were rescued after the vessel, which was carrying 90 passengers and five crew members, capsized.

Concerns about overloading were raised, as registered ticket sales indicated that 114 adults were on board, and there may have been additional children who were not ticketed. The incident was attributed to the vessel being struck by a strong wave, causing it to overturn.

Footage shared online showed the hull of the boat floating in the water. The Zimbabwe Civil Protection Unit stated that rescue teams, supported by an underwater search unit, have been retrieving bodies and rescuing survivors.

The bodies are being collected by two funeral parlours, and those rescued have been taken to Long Island, a small island on Lake Kariba, which is one of the world's largest man-made reservoirs.
