6th Gov Diri Scrabble Classic Set for August in Yenagoa

The 6th Gov Diri Scrabble Classic, sanctioned by the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) and the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), is set for August 1 to August 2 in Yenagoa. The first day will occur at the Matho Crystal Hotel, while the final games and closing ceremonies will be held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Government House.

Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association (BYSA), announced that Governor Douye Diri has increased the total prize money to approximately N20 million across five categories, following the successful hosting of the previous edition.

The star prize for the Master’s category winner has been raised to N2 million from N1 million in 2025. Alabrah noted that the governor's ongoing sponsorship has heightened awareness and interest in scrabble among the youth in Bayelsa and Nigeria.

Engr. Bright Idahosa, President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), praised Governor Diri for his consistent support of the tournament, emphasizing its significance in the federation's calendar.
