Over 300 Players Compete for ₦20M in Bayelsa Scrabble Classic

The sixth edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Classic will take place on August 1 and 2, 2023, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, featuring a record prize pool of nearly ₦20 million. This prestigious championship, recognized by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), is sanctioned by the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) and the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA).

More than 300 players are expected to participate, reinforcing its status as one of Africa's premier scrabble tournaments. The event will begin at the Matho Crystal Hotel and conclude at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, with Governor Douye Diri serving as Chief Host and Special Guest of Honour.

Daniel Alabrah, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association (BYSA), announced the substantial increase in prize money, particularly in the Masters category, where the champion will receive ₦2 million, a 100% increase from the previous year. This reflects the governor's commitment to sports development in Bayelsa State.
