Kwara AGILE Project Grants ₦40,000 to 32,420 Girls
A total of 32,420 adolescent girls in Kwara State have received ₦40,000 each as conditional cash transfers under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project. The Kwara AGILE Project Coordinator, Adeshina Salami, stated that beneficiaries are also receiving training in life skills, digital literacy, and vocational skills.
The program aims to strengthen girls' education and ensure that female students remain in school and complete their education. The initiative targets female students in both public and private schools across the state.
Lawal Hamzat Adisa, the Deputy Project Coordinator of Kwara AGILE and System Strengthening Sub-component Lead, noted that the project addresses challenges such as unwanted pregnancies, early marriages, and high dropout rates among adolescent girls. He mentioned that the enrolment rate among girls aged 10 to 20 had been low, with a fertility rate above 70 percent.
However, AGILE's involvement has led to an increase in enrolment rates. Adisa emphasized the need for sustainable measures to maintain the program's gains after its conclusion.
