Adebayo Reflects on 33 Years Since June 12 Elections

On June 12, 2023, Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), commemorated the 33rd anniversary of the annulled 1993 presidential elections won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. Adebayo described the elections as one of Nigeria's finest democratic moments, representing hope during a time when many African nations were under military rule.

He condemned the annulment as a betrayal of the Nigerian people and a disruption of the country's democratic transition. Adebayo paid tribute to Kudirat Abiola, acknowledging her sacrifices in the ongoing struggle for democracy.

He criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for practices that undermine democratic values, such as pressuring political parties and interfering in law enforcement. Adebayo argued that despite three decades of civilian rule, Nigeria has yet to fulfill the promises associated with June 12.
