SDP Honors Abiola, Advocates for Credible Elections

On June 12, the Shehu Gabam-led Social Democratic Party (SDP) paid tribute to late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who was the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. In a statement issued on Friday, the party emphasized the importance of credible elections and the strengthening of democratic institutions in Nigeria.

Zakari Nadabo, the party's national public secretary, highlighted that June 12 holds a special significance in the SDP's history. The party honored Abiola as a pro-democracy activist and recognized the contributions of civil society groups and ordinary Nigerians in restoring democratic governance after years of military rule.

The SDP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democratic values and urged Nigerian political leaders to prioritize national interest over personal political ambitions. The party called for continued active participation in peaceful democratic processes by all Nigerians.
