UNFPA Warns of 3.3M Potential HIV Infections by 2030 Without Urgent Action

The UNFPA has cautioned that around 3.3 million more people could contract HIV by 2030 if immediate measures are not taken to address ongoing disruptions in global prevention programs, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Diene Keita, the Executive Director of UNFPA, highlighted the detrimental impact of recent funding cuts on vulnerable communities, risking progress in reducing new infections.

She emphasized the urgent need to stabilize prevention programs and sustain global commitments to combat HIV. The organization stressed the importance of rebuilding weakened systems and reallocating resources to prevent a potential surge in HIV cases, particularly among adolescent girls and young women.
