Edo University Lecturer Dies After Hotel Encounter

Dr. Matthew Uwuigbe, a senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, died after reportedly collapsing in a hotel room following a sexual encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker named Angela Defa Jacob. The incident occurred on October 5, 2026, at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel with Jacob and collapsed shortly after their encounter. According to Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Uwuigbe sent Jacob to buy water, and upon her return, she found him lying dead in the room.

The police have arrested three individuals, including the hotel owner, manager, and Jacob, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding Uwuigbe's death are ongoing. His body has been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary.
