Woman Found Dead in Calabar Hotel, Police Investigate

On September 8, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM, the Cross River State Police Command received a report regarding an unidentified female guest found dead in Room 2 of a hotel on Clifford Street, Calabar South. The report was made by the hotel director, accompanied by the hotel manager and receptionist.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the female guest had checked in with an unidentified male companion on September 7, 2026, around 8:00 PM. The male guest's identity was not properly documented at check-in.

In the early hours of September 7, the hotel receptionist noticed the door to Room 2 was open and, believing the occupants had checked out, entered to switch off the ceiling fan. Upon entering, he discovered the female guest unresponsive on the bed.

Investigators noted apparent marks of violence on her face and neck. The body was taken to the General Hospital, Calabar, where she was confirmed dead.

Tablets were found in her handbag, but no connection to the cause of death has been established. The receptionist is in custody for questioning.
