August 2026: 60% of Nigerian Flights Delayed

In August 2026, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reported that 4,765 out of 7,961 domestic flights operated by Nigerian airlines were delayed, accounting for approximately 60 percent of total flights. Only 40 percent of flights were on time, and 36 flights were canceled, representing less than one percent of total operations.

Among the delayed flights, 2,801 experienced delays of 16 minutes to one hour, while 1,322 were delayed between one and two hours. Air Peace recorded the highest number of delays, with 1,330 of its 1,864 flights delayed, which is about 71 percent of its operations.

United Nigeria Airlines followed with 943 delays out of 1,231 flights, representing about 77 percent. Other airlines such as Enugu Air, Value Jet, Aero Contractors, and Arik Air also reported significant delays.

The NCAA's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, confirmed that Air Peace had some aircraft on ground (AOG), impacting its operations.
