Foreign Workers Kidnapped at Zamfara Gold Mine

On March 14, 2026, five foreign workers were kidnapped from a gold mining site located in Zamfara, Nigeria. The incident occurred around 11:15 AM when a large group of armed bandits reportedly attacked the site, forcibly taking the workers to an unknown destination.

Following the attack, security personnel were deployed nearby and arrived at the scene shortly after the assailants had fled into the surrounding bush. Efforts are ongoing to track the bandits and secure the safe release of the abducted foreigners.

The Zamfara region has increasingly become a hotspot for violence, with frequent clashes reported. Notably, on January 22, 2026, a similar attack by suspected bandits at a mine site in the Kuru community resulted in the deaths of seven young miners.

Additionally, on December 16, 2025, an attack in the Ratoso Fan community led to the deaths of no fewer than 12 miners, with several others injured.
