Gunmen Kill 50, Abduct Women and Children in Zamfara

On Friday, it was reported that gunmen attacked Tungan Duts Village in Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of at least 50 individuals and the abduction of several women and children. The attack, which occurred from around 5 PM on Thursday until 3:30 AM on Friday, was confirmed by Hamisu Faru, a lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South, to Reuters.

The assailants, armed men on motorcycles, stormed the community, killing residents and setting properties ablaze. Local sources indicated that security forces had been alerted earlier about 150 armed men moving in the area.

This incident is part of a troubling trend of escalating banditry in Zamfara State, which has seen a rise in mass killings and abductions, displacing thousands. The federal and state authorities are under increasing pressure to implement effective security measures in response to the ongoing violence, which has become a significant concern in Nigeria, particularly in the northwest region.
