Lassa Fever Outbreak in Benue State: 50 Under Surveillance After Safe Burial Efforts

Following a Lassa fever outbreak in Benue State, 50 individuals have been identified for surveillance after coming into contact with the victim's body. The victim, a 54-year-old woman from Ogbadibo LGA, was confirmed to have Lassa fever and was given a safe burial by a team following WHO and NCDC guidelines.

Dr. Paul Ogwuch led efforts to retrieve the body amidst resistance from locals.

The State Ministry of Health is intensifying surveillance in Ogbadibo and Okpokwu LGAs, conducting health education sessions to raise awareness and promote hygiene practices.
