Benue State has shut down a privately-owned mortuary in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area, following an incident where youths dumped a Lassa fever corpse. The deceased, a 54-year-old woman from Ogbadibo, was confirmed to have been infected with Lassa fever.

Health officials faced resistance during attempts to conduct a safe burial, prompting the intervention of authorities to ensure proper handling of the situation. The mortuary closure aims to prevent disease transmission, with a directive for decontamination and disinfection.
