NCDC Confirms 168 Deaths from Lassa Fever Outbreak

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported that Lassa fever has resulted in the deaths of 168 individuals across 21 states and 106 local government areas. In its situation report for epidemiological week 38, the NCDC disclosed a total of 2,025 suspected cases with 897 confirmed positive cases and a fatality rate of 8%.

Ondo, Edo, and Taraba states are identified as the epicenters of the outbreak, with Ondo recording the highest burden. The affected states include Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Gombe, Plateau, Kaduna, and others.

The NCDC highlighted that the disease primarily affects individuals aged 21-40, who are socially and economically active.
