NCC Reports Gaps in Nigeria's 5G Network Coverage

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has highlighted considerable gaps in 5G network coverage across Nigeria, nearly five years after the technology's introduction. Despite initial enthusiasm, the deployment of 5G services remains limited, particularly in rural areas where many still rely on 2G and 3G networks.

The NCC's report indicates that 70.9% of 5G-capable devices in Lagos cannot connect to the 5G network, and 65.6% in Abuja face similar issues. The report emphasizes the need for telecom operators to focus on improving latency and reducing jitter to enhance user experience.

The NCC assessed performance across all 774 local government areas, revealing that while some areas have infrastructure, it has not translated into consistent high-speed usage. The report calls for smarter investment plans to bridge the connectivity gap and ensure that the benefits of 5G reach beyond mere rollout statistics.
