60 Million Nigerian Adults Lack Basic Literacy and Numeracy Skills - Commission Calls for Improved Funding

The Executive Secretary of the Nation Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult Non-Formal Education (NMEC), Prof. Musa Garba Maitafsir, revealed that 60 million adults in Nigeria lack basic literacy and numeracy skills.

He emphasized the importance of adult education in leveraging the 5th industrial revolution for inclusive and sustainable development. The annual conference of the Nigeria National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE) in Kano focused on the theme of future adult learning in Nigeria.

Maitafsir highlighted the need to reposition adult education at the heart of the 5th industrial revolution to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 4 on quality education.
