Nigeria Govt Vows to Enhance Non-Formal Education for Literacy, Jobs

The Nigerian government has pledged to revamp non-formal education to combat illiteracy and unemployment. The Acting Executive Secretary of the commission, John Onimisi Edeh, emphasized the importance of vocational training in the Literacy Economic Empowerment Strategy (LEES).

LEES aims to make education appealing and equip adults and youth with functional literacy and entrepreneurial skills. Despite previous interventions, illiteracy persists in Nigeria, affecting children and unemployed youth.

The program provides training in various trades like catering, fashion, and hairdressing. Beneficiaries received empowerment tools like sewing machines and generators to kickstart their businesses.

The initiative underscores the necessity of inclusive education for Nigeria's development and prosperity.
