Tinubu Applauds EFCC for Mambilla Power Project Victory

President Bola Tinubu commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its investigation into the alleged fraudulent $6 billion contract awarded to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited (SPTCL) for the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station. The EFCC's efforts were crucial in the federal government's victory at the International Arbitration Tribunal on September 17, 2026.

Tinubu acknowledged the contributions of Attorney-General Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Federal Ministry of Justice team, and the legal defense led by Elizabeth Oger-Gross and Tolu Obamuroh from Paul Hastings LLP. He also recognized the testimonies of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as former Ministers Babatunde Raji Fashola and Suleiman Adamu.

The tribunal rejected SPTCL's claims for $680 million in damages and over $2.7 billion in compensation related to the project, which dates back to a 2003 contract that was never authorized by the Federal Executive Council.
