ACI Africa Reports 80% of Airports Inefficient Financially

At a press conference in Abuja, Ali Tounsi, Secretary-General of Airports Council International Africa, announced that 80% of airports in Africa are financially inefficient. This statement was made ahead of the 35th ACI Africa Annual General Assembly, Regional Conference, and Exhibition, which will take place from September 19 to 25, 2026.

The event has attracted over 500 delegates, exceeding initial estimates of 350 to 400, indicating Nigeria's appeal as a host. The conference will address various challenges faced by African airports, including financial efficiency, digitalization, and environmental issues.

Henry Agbebire, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), emphasized the importance of the event for stakeholders to discuss airport performance and resilience. FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku stated that over 100 personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth preparations and security for delegates arriving at Nigerian airports.
