Ogun Athletes Finally Receive Cash Rewards After 9 Months

Nine months after the Ogun State Sports Festival, athletes from Ogun State received their entitlements, including cash rewards. Governor Dapo Abiodun spoke at the award ceremony held on a Monday, describing the achievements as a testament to the steady growth of sports development in the state.

The Ogun team finished second overall with 239 medals, marking their best performance in the festival's history. Abiodun disclosed that training would allow participation and that contractual fees for athletes and officials would be fully settled.

He fulfilled earlier promises made during a visit to the athletes' camp, including an immediate cash reward of ₦50,000 for every qualified athlete and bonuses for medal winners: ₦2.5 million for 93 gold medalists, ₦1.5 million for 61 silver medalists, and ₦1 million for 81 bronze medalists. Additionally, Abiodun approved special financial support of ₦10 million for technical officials and ₦14.8 million for participating officials.

He emphasized the importance of mentorship and discipline in achieving success and highlighted the transformation of the sports sector in Ogun State.
