Lagos State Awards Cash Prizes to National Sports Festival Medalists

Lagos State has announced cash rewards for medalists at the 2024 National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after athletes protested the delayed rewards for the last two editions. Athletes will receive varying amounts based on their medal achievements, with gold medalists receiving the highest cash prize.

The protest, led by senior athletes, resulted in a compromise with the Lagos State Sports Commission. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also approved cash rewards for junior athletes who excelled at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
