Nine Passengers Killed in Ijebu-Ode Expressway Crash
On Monday afternoon, a tragic accident on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore Expressway resulted in the deaths of nine passengers, comprising three males and six females. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at the Bethel Area, involving a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, suspected to belong to the Delta State Transport Line, and a white Sino Truck marked AAB 162 XD, linked to a company dealing with industrial gas in Ogun State.
Afolabi Odunsi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that all nine passengers died on the spot. The crash was attributed to speed violation, exacerbated by wet road conditions due to rain.
The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes. The victims' bodies were taken to the State Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode, and the vehicles were towed to the Ilese Police Divisional headquarters.
Oludare Ogunjobi, the Sector Command Corps Commander, urged motorists to exercise caution during rainfall and adhere to speed limits.
