9.2 Million Nigerians Benefit from N688bn Cash Transfer

The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed approximately N688 billion through its cash transfer program, benefiting no fewer than 9.2 million Nigerians over two years. Dr.

Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, announced this during a press conference in Abuja. The cash transfer scheme, which is part of the National Social Safety Net, aims to cushion the effects of recent economic reforms on vulnerable households.

Each eligible household receives N75,000 distributed in three tranches, with 9,178,837 households having received at least the first tranche of N25,000. The program is designed to empower women, with 5,391,225 women (58.7%) among the beneficiaries.

The initiative is set to run from November 2023 to February 2026, with ongoing verification processes to ensure transparency. Dr.

Abisoy Coker Odusot emphasized the importance of identification verification in maintaining program integrity.
