Over 9 Million Nigerians Benefit from HoPE Cash Transfer

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that over 9 million Nigerians have benefited from the Household Prosperity Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme, aimed at alleviating the impact of rising living costs on vulnerable households. Dr.

Benard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, revealed during a press conference in Abuja that as of now, 9,178,837 beneficiaries have received the first tranche of support, with 7,203,579 paid the second tranche and 6,497,089 accessing the third tranche. Each eligible household receives N75,000 in three installments to help meet basic needs such as food, healthcare, and education.

The programme, which emphasizes gender balance with 58.7% female beneficiaries, is entirely free, and the public is warned against any payment schemes. Dr.

Abisoy Coker Odusot highlighted improvements in transparency and efficiency through the integration of digital identification systems. The initiative, supported by an $800 million facilitation from the World Bank, aims to expand coverage to 15 million households nationwide.
