A win for farmers – Tinubu speaks on suspension of raw shea exports

President Bola Tinubu has announced the suspension of raw shea exports in Nigeria, calling it a major win for farmers, especially women. The temporary ban, effective immediately, was recommended by the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit to secure raw materials for local processors, create jobs, and protect the value chain.

Tinubu emphasized the need to expand processing capacity in collaboration with Vice President Kashim Shettima and stakeholders to ensure lasting prosperity. Nigeria is a major producer of shea, accounting for nearly 40% of the world's supply, yet capturing less than 1% of the global market.

The move aims to shift from exporting poverty to importing value, creating wealth at home and competing abroad. This decision is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver prosperity and new market access beyond Brazil.
