ABA Hosts Coaching Clinic to Boost Grassroots Basketball

The Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA) organized a one-day coaching clinic in Makurdi, Benue State, to enhance grassroots basketball development in Nigeria. The event attracted 11 coaches from eight basketball academies and is part of a series of nationwide capacity-building programs, following similar clinics in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Minna, Niger State.

The clinic, titled “Team Work,” took place at the Royal Choice Hotel and aimed to improve coaches' technical competence through updated coaching methods, tactical awareness, and player development. Aliyu Lucky Abubakar, President and Founder of the ABA and Deputy Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, emphasized the importance of collaboration among basketball stakeholders to restore the sport's prominence in Nigeria.

He urged coaches to continually enhance their skills to compete internationally and highlighted grassroots development as essential for building successful national teams. The ABA's initiative is non-political and seeks to unite various stakeholders in the basketball community.
