Dr Mustapha Abdullahi Pursues NBBF Leadership for Sports Growth

Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, has announced his ambition to lead the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). His bid aligns with President Bola Tinubu's agenda to reposition sports as a means for investment and economic diversification.

Abdullahi, who has over two decades of experience in basketball, aims to establish a professionally managed federation that focuses on stronger domestic leagues, better player welfare, and sustainable commercial partnerships. He believes collaboration with state associations, clubs, and coaches is essential for improving basketball administration.

Abdullahi's vision is supported by his practical involvement in the sport, including playing in Nigeria's domestic leagues and investing in grassroots basketball through the DAM Foundation. He has constructed a court in Kano and organized competitions in Okene, emphasizing the need for access to facilities and professional coaching for young athletes.

Abdullahi argues that the NBBF should contribute to building a sports industry that creates jobs and supports economic growth.
