Kwara's Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Becomes Sardaunan Ilorin

On September 16, 2026, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara was formally turbanned as Sardaunan Ilorin, a title historically associated with leadership and prestige, originally held by Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Premier of Northern Nigeria. This title signifies more than historical symbolism; it acknowledges AbdulRazaq's promotion of Ilorin's culture and his contributions to the Ilorin Grand Durbar.

Conferred with the title in August 2024, AbdulRazaq is the second recipient after the late Umaru Saro. Emir Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari highlighted AbdulRazaq's leadership qualities, which have fostered growth and good governance in Kwara over the past seven years.

Despite challenges such as insecurity, which remains a concern, the state has made significant strides, including hosting a military division and five battalions. The administration has focused on urban renewal and infrastructure development, transforming Kwara into a more institutionally and economically robust state since 2019.
