Abia Assembly Speaker Denies Executive Control Claims

Emmanuel Emeruwa, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, addressed claims that the assembly is under the control of the executive arm of government. He asserted that the assembly maintains a cordial working relationship with the executive, which is essential for the state's development.

Emeruwa spoke during the third anniversary of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly in Umuahia on Tuesday. He noted that the assembly has passed numerous bills aimed at welfare, criminal justice, and political appropriations, covering various aspects of human life.

Despite the achievements, he acknowledged that there are still goals yet to be accomplished. Emeruwa also commented on the recent killing of nursing student Wendy Achumba in Imo State, expressing confidence that justice will be served as the suspect is under investigation.

He highlighted that the assembly's primary responsibility remains legislative, and he expressed satisfaction with the increase in Labour Party lawmakers from nine to eleven members.
