Alex Otti Rejects Political Godfather Role in Abia

Abia State Governor Alex Otti stated on Thursday in Umuahia that he will not become a political godfather nor impose a successor when he completes his second term in 2031. Otti made this declaration while welcoming former Social Democratic Party governorship candidate Ngozi Johnson Chukwunenye and her supporters into the Labour Party.

He asserted that leadership succession should prioritize merit and competence over a “sit-tight” culture. Otti expressed confidence that his successor would be better equipped to lead Abia State, emphasizing the importance of good governance.

He reiterated his commitment to not seek any elective office after his tenure and highlighted the need to empower younger generations. Otti mentioned that his administration is nurturing future leaders through the Abia Leadership Academy, where over 1,080 young individuals aged 16 to 25 have recently graduated.

He noted ongoing development efforts in Aba and Umuahia, with plans to extend projects to other areas of the state.
