Alex Otti Rejects Political Godfather Role in Abia State

Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced on Thursday in Umuahia that he will not become a political godfather nor impose a successor after his second tenure ends in 2031. During a reception for former Social Democratic Party governorship candidate Ngozi Johnson-Chukwunenye and her supporters joining the Labour Party, Otti stressed that political succession should focus on identifying the most suitable candidates rather than perpetuating a “sit-tight” leadership culture.

He expressed his commitment to good governance, stating that once people experience it, they will resist returning to poor leadership. Otti reiterated that he would not seek any elective office after his second term, advocating for opportunities for younger, better-trained Nigerians to assume leadership roles.

He mentioned that over 1,080 young people aged 16 to 25 have graduated from the Abia Leadership Academy, which aims to prepare the next generation of leaders. Otti affirmed that his administration would continue to improve governance and infrastructure across Abia State.
