Abia State To Host 2025 NWFL Women’s Championship

Abia State has been chosen to host the 2025 NWFL Women's Championship, as announced by NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi in a press statement on August 18. Seventeen clubs have officially registered for the tournament, which will see teams drawn into four groups.

Shabi highlighted that the league aims to identify and nurture emerging talent, providing a platform for young players and ambitious clubs to showcase their skills. Clubs that perform well in the Championship will earn the opportunity to compete in the NWFL, Nigeria's premier women's football competition.

Football fans across the country are eagerly anticipating the tournament, which promises intense competition and the chance to witness future stars in action. This event is expected to boost local engagement in women's football, as the sport continues to grow in popularity nationwide.

The Championship will mark the first NWFL competition since Bayelsa Queens were crowned champions of the 2025 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership in May 2025.
