Malami Declares No Regrets After Release, Vows to Fight Charges

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has stated he has "no regrets" following his release from custody, where he faced 16 counts of money laundering alongside his wife, Bashir Asab, and son, Abdulaziz Malami. Malami asserted his commitment to vigorously defend against the allegations filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to which he has pleaded not guilty.

He was rearrested on January 19, shortly after being released from Kuje Prison in Abuja. Two days later, he accused the DSS of denying him access to his family and legal representation.

On February 27, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to his son, Abdulaziz Malami, in the sum of 200 million naira related to alleged terrorism offenses. Malami described his detention experiences across multiple facilities, including EFCC custody and Kuje Prison, and emphasized his belief in divine will.

He plans to challenge the allegations against him in court.
